I was asked a question recently and thought I would pose the same question to you.
What monetary value do you put on your health?
Think about this. You put a monetary value on your home, on your car, on your furniture…..all these things have a monetary value and yet they can be replaced.
Now, let’s look at your health. Is it irreplaceable?
I asked a friend this same question, and she said her health is priceless. Well, what exactly does priceless mean in the context of health.
Before we do this, let’s look at an heirloom which is considered priceless to many. Thus, it’s irreplaceable. You take care of that heirloom. You place it in a space that is protected. You focus on that heirloom with such profound love because you want it to last so you can pass it on to family members. The intent is this heirloom stays in wonderful condition in order to preserve its meaning to all the family who will care for it for years to come. We look at that heirloom and say this is a part of us and it has incredible value.
Well if our health is priceless, then shouldn’t we be treating it in the same respect as our heirloom? Shouldn’t we be preserving our health and loving our bodies so that our family gets the benefit of what meaning we serve in their lives.
Yet, how many of us actually do this on a conscious level?
Most of the population doesn’t take the time nor invest in themselves monetarily choosing those things that will affirm nurturing, love and protection for its most valuable heirloom – YOU! Giving to ourselves each and everyday and investing in those things that affirm health is the most valuable thing you can give your family.
Which would you rather give your family? A necklace passed down from your great grandmother or a healthy, vibrant YOU filled with love for yourself? Which one has more value to pass down from generation to generation?
I can speak about this as my mother died in 1987. I have my mother’s wedding rings that I will pass on, and they do have great meaning. However, I would choose to have a mother who knew how to love herself, who knew how to take care of herself so that I could have learned from her in how to do this for myself. What greater gift is there to pass on?
I spent many years in struggle not understanding how to love myself. It wasn’t just from my mother; it was from my father as well. Neither one of them knew how to love themselves.
Guess what? Now, I have learned how to do this, and am showing my daughter, Lindsay, what this looks like. She, in turn, is finding incredible value from this as she is understanding and taking action in how to do this for herself. As a 21 year old intelligent, beautiful woman, she does the following:
• eats nutritious foods
• exercises
• surrounds herself with positive people
• reads spiritual books
• loves spending time with herself
• gets massages
• sees a Naturopathic doctor and nutritionist
• sees a chiropractor
• dates a young man who treats her with kindness
• a senior at the University of Washington majoring in business, and regularly makes the Dean’s list
I am so proud of Lindsay. This picture of her would have looked much different if I hadn’t learned how to lead by example
So let’s go back to my original question. What monetary value do you put on your health?
My answer to this question is….over a million dollars. Thus, I choose to invest my money where I will get the greatest return and that is in myself and Lindsay to keep affirming loving ourselves. Look at this priceless gift that will be passed down to generations to come. Is it worth it? Every penny!
I think of the money that it cost me when I lived in struggle, the energy and the time. Then I have to figure in the monetary amount impact to everyone else when I didn’t love myself.
Protect and nurture YOU to pass down the value to your future generations.
If you truly are ready to learn how to love yourself, contact me at tami@tamiclose.com or call me at 360-792-2209 to set up a FREE strategy session. Show your family members what they mean to you. The cycle of struggle can stop with you.

It’s the new millenium. Are you ready to finally realize your dream? I’m talking about the desire that you carry deep down inside of you that you attribute to some adolescent fancy. It’s the dream that isn’t practical and can’t possible be fulfilled. Well, it is possible to fulfill it and the time to do so is now.
All The Reasons Why
Many of us think we have very sound reasons why we can’t achieve our dreams. However, when you look at them more closely, you’ll find that they don’t hold up to the light of scrutiny.
- I don’t have enough time – We can always find time to do the things that are important to us. Look at your time wasters – too much television, doing everything yourself, not saying no to things that you really don’t want to do. Minimize or eliminate these time wasters so you can use that time to work on your goal.
- I don’t know how – You might not know how to do it, but it’s possible that other people do. Look at people who have accomplished what you want to do. Study them. Learn from them. What is it that they do that you can apply to your own situation? Take those things that you can use and put them into action.
- It will take too long – Regardless of how long it takes, the time will pass anyway. If you don’t take action now, you will find yourself older and still yearning for the dream that you haven’t realized. You are at the perfect time in your life to make your dream to come true.
- It’s overwhelming – Then break it down into small, manageable steps. What is the first thing you need to do, then the next, and the step after that? Concentrate on completing each task and you will find yourself well on your way to achieving your goal.
Follow These Steps
The first step to realizing your dream is to identify the full scope of what it is that you want. For example, if you want to achieve greater success in your career, what does that mean? Does it mean becoming a department head, does it mean going out on your own, does it mean moving into a different aspect of your industry or does it mean changing careers altogether? If you haven’t identified what your goal really is, you will never be able to attain it.
The next step is to decide that some how, some way you are going to attain your dream. Feel the strength of the conviction inside of you that regardless of what happens, you will not be moved from this decision.
Then pay attention to the ideas that come to you about how to move toward your goal. Be careful not to discount these ideas as being dumb or implausible. Very often the seemingly ridiculous ideas are the ones we need to follow to achieve success.
Take steps that move you in the direction of your goal. Sometimes you will take big steps; sometimes you can only take small steps. The size of the step doesn’t matter. What is important is that you continue to take action. If you get sidetracked, don’t waste time and energy condemning yourself. Just get back on track and continue to move forward.
Envision in your mind how wonderful it will feel to achieve your goal. Play this scene often with you starring in the leading role. This will provide you with the motivation and the spark of enthusiasm to keep trying even after you experience setbacks or challenges.
You can have what you want in life. You do have what it takes to achieve your dream. Stop thinking about why you can’t have it and start envisioning what it will be like when you do have it. This is your life – what are you waiting for? The time to realize your dream is NOW!

Have you done your homework?
No, we are not back at school, hating the dreaded homework as it stopped us doing other “better, more exciting things” To clients we ask this question regularly. With so much information at hand on moving to Spain, we ascertain what they know and listen to what they want.
Seven years ago whilst doing our homework on this area, a chance meeting with a British couple who have lived here for over 20 years gave us more of an insight than any books, websites or TV programmes on the subject of relocation to Spain. One comment they made was “if you wouldn’t do it at home don’t do it here” they warned us about buying property and other services from strangers!! This comment (made like a parents warning to a child) sat uncomfortable with me until I experienced what they meant. In English discussing the menu in a restaurant a few days later the first approach was made, I was polite to the British women offering to show us several houses without knowing our budget or what we were looking for. Eager to get back to ordering our meal I foolishly gave her my mobile number. Oh, what a mistake, hard selling calls twice a day and her husband was a plumber who would solve all our future needs, finally I was not so polite. Remembering the warning given to us, I told her that we would use a registered estate agent; buying a house the same way as in England and the services of her husband were not required!!
Using websites to look at what property is available in the comfort of your home is a great way to “window shop” but knowledge of the area is essential, back to doing your homework. Independently from an agent, spend time travelling in the area visiting villages and towns (remember between 1 – 5pm and Sundays they are more sleepy than normal with shops shut and only restaurants and cafes open). Once you have found areas of preference use these locations to narrow down you new home. The cliché Location, Location may sound trite but the right house in the wrong area is impossible to solve. People have waited over a year for the right house in just one village!
If you are at the first stages of looking for a property, use websites giving information on the legal process, do check when they were last updated. Books on the subject tend to be out of date before they are in print, but are a good source about the cultural and social aspects of the area. Try the Consulate and tourist sites, also there are good magazine and forum sites in English.
New legislation – Notaries have been instructed by the tax authorities to ensure all foreigners purchasing or selling property do this using a NIE Number. No longer can you use your passport number for this transaction. Your agent should advise you on this subject.
Helen Rowe has successfully bought in Spain and in the process identified the many traps awaiting the unprepared. To improve the services to foreign buyers Helen joined forces with a registered Estate Agent 4 years ago. Helen designed and launched an English Language Real Estate website for Immobiliaria Rieres and is responsible for all overseas marketing and sales.

Increasingly, screen readers are being bundled with operating system distributions. A screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen. The open source GNOME desktop environment long included Gnopernicus and now includes Orca. Recent versions of Microsoft Windows come with the rather basic Narrator. Only a small fraction of this population, when compared to the sighted community, have Internet access. The primary audience for such applications is those who have difficulty reading because of learning disabilities or language barriers. The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. Experimental approaches in sensory substitution are beginning to provide access to arbitrary live views from a camera. Almost 10 percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision. The latter developed in part by Knopper who has a visual impairment. Web browsers, word processors, icons and windows and email programs are just some of the applications used successfully by screen reader users. Access technology such as screen readers and Screen magnifiers enable the blind to use mainstream computer applications. The movement towards greater web accessibility is opening a far wider number of websites to adaptive technology, making the web a more inviting place for visually impaired surfers. The Macintosh OS also comes with a built-in screen reader, called VoiceOver. Most legally blind people 70 percent do not use computers. This interpretation is then represented to the user with text-to-speech, sound icons, or a braille output. Linux distributions for the blind include Oralux and Adriane Knoppix. Screen reader choice is contentious: differing priorities and strong preferences are common. Screen readers can be assumed to be able to access all display content that is not intrinsically inaccessible. There are also open source screen readers, such as the Linux Screen Reader for GNOME and NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows. This month volunteer Anthony Loeff is reporting digital tools for Later versions of Microsoft Windows include an Accessibility Wizard and Magnifier for those with partial vision, and Microsoft Narrator, a simple screen reader. Further functionality remains limited compared to equivalent desktop applications, the major benefit is to increase the accessibility of said websites. Indeed, using a screen reader is, according to some users, considerably more difficult than using a GUI and many applications have specific problems resulting from the nature of the application. Screen readers are a form of assistive technology potentially useful to people who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled, often in combination with other AT such as screen magnifiers. A persons choice of screen reader is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers. While Apple Mac OS X includes VoiceOver, a more feature-rich screen reader. The console-based Oralux Linux distribution ships with three screen-reading environments: Emacspeak, Yasr and Speakup.

A couple of weeks ago Julie and I were shopping in a supermarket on the other side of the island when we heard; “How great to hear a couple of English voices”. It was Bill and Sally newly arrived from the UK. We had a chat and after a while invited them to come around for coffee.
The essence of their visit is, they have sold their home in the UK and have been living in holiday accommodation for a couple of months and are looking for somewhere permanent to live. We took them around the area where we live, explained the benefits and deficits, as we see them, and showed them what was on offer. A couple of days later Sally asked Julie to contact some of the local landlords and set up some appointments for Sally and Bill to view apartments.
A day or so later Julie ‘phoned Sally and said that she had arranged viewing as agreed and was met with “Ah! We met another English couple a couple of days ago, in another part of the island, and well, we are keeping our options open at the moment”.
Keeping our options open is obviously short hand for I am not going to do anything. I am not going to make a decision here. I am frightened that if I make a decision I will miss something better, sometime, somewhere. In our world keeping your options open is another way of saying I don’t know what I want. I want to be persuaded by others. I am frightened to take control of my life.
Compare this with Mike and Nick a couple of guys who own a local restaurant. They came here about four years ago with the intention of opening a restaurant and limited capital. However, that didn’t stop them. They found the site and negotiated the rent and bought all the equipment they needed. But found they didn’t have enough money left to rent an apartment. So what did they do? They slept in the back of the restaurant after it was closed. They did this for six months until they had enough money to rent an apartment.
This year, they changed location to a prime spot overlooking the harbour with a terrace for extra seating.
They came with a dream, realised only they could make it happen. Worked hard and kept focussed. The result; A successful business.
Who are you like? Do you follow the footsteps of Bill and Sally and keep your options open. Or are you a Mike and Nick who know what they want and get on with it even though it may be difficult?
If you are a Bill or Sally and would like to change easily. You can. Just mix with the likes of Mike and Nick.
Recent research by Dr. Richard Restak, a neurosurgeon and popular science writer on the brain, has proven that we tend to mimic those we mix with. So that means if you mix with the Bill and Sally’s then the chances are high that you will find yourself keeping your options open. Whereas if you mix with the Mike and Nick’s of the world then you will develop a tendency to be goal oriented and determined to succeed.
In a nutshell Restak is saying whoever you spend time with will have a strong influence on how you behave. The skill is to identify the people you admire and make an effort to mix with them and avoid being around those who drain your energy and make you think negatively about yourself and others.
The bottom line is that your brain cannot tell the difference between the behaviour of people who you admire and people you dislike. The only arbiter is you. In other words if you don’t want to be someone who is keeping their options open then get out of there and mix with people who are behaving like you want to behave.

Self Improvement + More | 3 July, 2008
The motivation for good or bad which we get from our families is huge. They can either destroy our dreams or help us create them. Most of the boxers in the Contender series are strongly supported by their families. The organisers recognise this fact by allowing families to live close to the Contender Gymnasium.
“The Contender” is a reality TV show organised by Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard. 16 top middleweight boxers compete for a chance at boxing glory and a million dollars. Each week a losing boxer leaves the show.
You would imagine these young boxers would be motivated by the glory and the money but, surprisingly, they seem to be motivated far more by love of their families. If they mention the money it is always along with the thought that it will provide a better life for their families. These tough young men are often in tears as they think of their families.
Anthony Bonsante was driven by love of his family to choose as his opponent one of the weaker boxers so that he could progress further in the competition. This annoyed his team members who had agreed that he should choose a stronger opponent. However, he put family first and was willing to upset his team mates in the process. Predictably he knocked out his opponent and stayed on in the competition. Most of his team members later forgave him for chosing a weaker boxer for his opponent. They realised that boxing is, ultimately, an individual sport.
Joey Gilbert, one of the boxers, put the whole Contender series in perspective. He was surprised but delighted to pick up the phone and find himself speaking to his soldier dad who had come home from Afghanistan. He knew the comparative value of boxing glory and having a dad who was still alive: “To hell with all this stuff. My dad is home; that is all that matters. I can sleep at night. I can go home with a smile on my face.”
In one of the later episodes of the first series of fights, Tarick Salmaci called out Juan de la Rosa, a young but very successful boxer, who has all the ideals and energy of youth. Juan believes you have to go the hard way if you want to achieve greatness. This means being ready to fight tough opponents.
Juan is young and has nothing to lose. He is too young to have a wife and kids to motivate him but he has a very influential person in his life. This person is his grandfather who had encouraged him to become a boxer. His grandfather died over a year ago but lives on in Juan’s memory.
Juan hangs his grandfather’s picture around his neck before and after every fight: “This reminds me of what I am here for.” He feels his grandfather’s presence when he boxes. Juan is a power puncher and is extremely confident but he looks a young innocent until he knocks you out!
“My grandfather told me there would always be obstacles in the way. I just want to go through them. I want my name up in lights; so did he. He will push me all the way.”
Juan’s dad also supported him. “I am happy my dad is here!” His dad encouraged him with comments like “Let’s win”.
Juan’s opponent Tarick Salmaci from Detroit was also motivated by his family:
“My daughter is two and a half years old. She is the joy of my life. The energy I get from my daughter is unexplainable. I deserve this shot because I’ve worked hard for it all my life. I’m doing this for my family – my wife and my daughter – so that we have a better life. When I am in the locker room I visualise myself in the ring and think of what is at stake.”
Both men were highly motivated for their fight. Tarick is older and more experienced. He is a boxer. Juan is a puncher and he has enormous energy and a great record behind him. He is only 18 years old.
Tarick allowed Juan to make a great start and was hurt early in the fight. Juan won the first round. He punched non stop and landed some powerful blows.
Tarick’s cornerman said: “You don’t have all day to do this. You have right now to do this.”
Tarick won round two but Juan won round three. Tarik’s age began to tell as he tired more quickly and was missing Juan with his punches.
Again Tarick’s cornerman did his best to motivate him: “You don’t need close rounds; you need winning rounds. You didn’t come here to lose did you?”
Tarick won round 4. His cornerman was remorseless: “You’ve got to give it everything to win. You’ve got to show heart, Tarick.”
In round 5, Tarick looked utterly exhausted but fought back fiercely. Juan boxed with all the energy and fury of youthful ambition. The crowd went wild.
Juan won the fight. He did not forget to kiss the photo of his granddad. “My Granddad was in there saying: ‘Don’t give up! Don’t give up.’ I didn’t give up; I just kept punching.”
Tarick had lost but he was content: “I’ve had my shot now and it’s a relief off my chest and I can now get on with my life.”
One of the organisers commented: “Juan de la Rosa should thank God that Tarick was not a few years younger.”
We are all motivated by family and mentors (the equivalent of corner men). If we can enlist their support in fulfilling our dreams, we will progress faster and further.
Of course, our progress still depends ultimately on our own efforts. Tarick had great family support and a brilliant cornerman but still lost.

Winter is the time of year that a lot of us look forward to but it can be a dangerous time to work if we don’t take precautions. In the winter our bodies are working hard already just to keep us warm so any activity added to that increases the stress on our system.
We have all heard the stories of the guy who goes out to shovel his walk and has a heart attack. We want to give you some tips to help prevent an event like this.
First let’s look at just a little basic physiology as temperatures drop your blood will be a little thicker as well, just like oil gets thicker almost like syrup. To counteract this make sure you stay plenty hydrated and consult your doctor to see if it would be appropriate to take an aspirin a day. That is what I do; the aspirin helps to thin your blood.
Make sure to layer your clothes. We want to be warm, but you need to be able to shed clothes as you warm up and as the day warms up. You must have enough warm clothes to protect you from the cold but you need to be able to make adjustments. Also remember that your extremities and your head are particularly vulnerable to the cold. Make sure that you have good insulated gloves and be sure to have thick insulated socks. Sometimes I have found when it is really cold that wearing two pairs of socks with a layer of saran wrap between them helps to keep my feet warm.
Now, when you begin to work take it slow. It is crucial that you not push yourself hard since your body is already stressed from the cold. Take the time to warm up and do some stretching as well. Pulled muscles and ligaments and back injuries are far more common in the winter due to the muscles and supporting tissues being stiff from the cold.
Don’t let yourself become a statistic, take time to stretch and warm up properly and monitor your heart. If your heart is beating rapidly, you are overworking and you need to take a break and slow down.
