Single table poker tournaments are one of the most underappreciated ways to build a bankroll in poker. While a lot of people prefer multi table tournaments or ring games, since well, the tourney players get the glory, and the ring gamers get instant cash. But Sit-n-Go single table tourneys are one of those little secrets that can help you build a lot of cash quickly if you have a decent handle on the game. And it’ll improve your skill set in Hold ‘Em overall. In the STTs, you’re up against one table; the field can range from 1 on 1 to up to 10 players, and the prize structures can vary pretty largely, too. Sometimes only one person gets paid, the winner of the table. But if you think about, you play a 1 dollar tournament against 6 opponents, you’ve won your buy in back plus 5 dollars. That’s a 500% return on your investment, and you only had to beat 5 players. Other STTs have a pay structure such as the double or nothing mode. Usually it’s 10 players, and if you survive for half the field, you win double your buy in back. This is a great way to start grinding some cash, especially if you can learn to multitable these games. At the lower stakes, you’ll run into a lot of donks, so your play will be mostly conservative and Tight Aggressive. I’ve even seen people fold their way to the bubble simply because the lower limits just love to throw money around thinking they can outplay the other opponents. At the higher levels, you’re still going to be playing TAG poker, but you’ll be able to mix up your game a little bit, and once you get pretty good, you’ll find that you’re making +EV with the tournaments you enter despite the high variance. Good luck at the tables.
