The only hitch I have being an ebay vendor as well as buyer is the way in which the things are done. Usually we recieve goods through post after we pay through paypal as well as pay ebay postage when we purchase something. This is the way in which all my purchases have taken place. Until I was in search of a sofa for my new flat.To find a perfect couch for yourself is troublesome on ebay as you do not get to sit on it and test the ease level, however luckily I found a similar sofa that I saw in a household furniture store but wasn’t able to afford it there. On ebay the sofa was lower than half of the value of that being displayed in the shop so I went to purchase the sofa. The sole difference was that this was an ebay collection buy so I need to go on my transport and pick it for myself, rather than they delivering it to me. There was an option to deliver it through a private courier however it was the same price as that of the couch.The address of the seller was specified so I agreed to pick up the couch, it was also stated that it would be good to bring a proper receipt of the purchase, I agreed to pay via paypal as the seller said. I transfered the money through paypal and we fixed a date and time for me to pick my new couch.The day of the sofa pick up had arrived, I was extremely delighted, I drove 100 miles to Wrexham and drove to the address which was given. When I arrived at the address I got a bit perplexed as it was looking like a warehouse and the seller had told me that it was his house. It was appearing as if there was nobody in the warehouse, still I pressed the buzzer, no one came out, still I waited and kept patient.Nobody turned up as it was looking like, so I called my partner to give me the telephone number of the vendor, however the contact details had been deleted and the account was suspended. Now it was clear I became a victim of online scam, no sofa in addition a loss of £450.The good news was that I had paid via Paypal and so I had a little security.I loged a dispute complain in paypal and managed to get back my cash, but it is very simple for that individual to make a new account with another name and card number and do the same thing with someone else. Lastly, I was advised the perfect thing to do is either pay on delivery or pay on pick up and to get the receipt signed by the vendor.
