Derek was so excited about going home. He was going to spend the evening looking at fashion courses on the internet and he was going to write to all the schools and get an interview for every one of them he decided. He had to find his old portfolio though and then had to start churning out design after design. He had caught the bug again and he knew he could do it. He bid farewell in his most gentlemanly manner to Elizabeth who thought he sounded like something out of the 17th century and he went on hi way. He hopped on the 329 bus which took him to right outside his house. Derek still lived with him mum. He didn’t care. It had saved him a lot of money living in his mum’s house and he knew he would not be struggling to go back to school. He had been saving for a deposit on a flat, but this was much better. He couldn’t wait to tell her all about it. Derek’s mum went out to work so she too would only just have got back from work when he came in. She was in the kitchen as usual making a cup of tea. ‘Hi mum’ he shouted as he bounded up the stairs, ‘just going to change into my mens bootcut jeans, or maybe the mens flared jeans, and then I will be with you’.
‘Okay…’said his mum a little bewildered. It had been a while since she had seen her son so happy, excited and talkative.
