FPB conducted a research, which revealed that each year there is a £16.8bn spending on abiding by the regulations, which is much larger than what it was previously.
Administration of tax has become the highest regulatory burden for small organizations. In the survey conducted in the year 2009, employment law was a top regulatory burden, which is now in the second. The health and safety law was considered second regulatory burden, which has now turned to be the third. Taxes were regarded as third, but at present have become the top burden.
Every year a bill of £5.1bn has made complying with the regulations to be the most expensive region of red tape. At present 84% of the surveyed people said that time spending on complying with the legislation since 2009 has increased. About two-third respondents believed that it is a force on them to spend money on outside consultants to assist them in avoiding legal drawbacks.
FPB calculates the yearly compliance cost and suggests that small employers in UK are spending about £16.8bn. Out of which £5.8bn is spent on external consultants and £11bn on internal costs and the average amount per firm equals £14,200.
Jane Bennett, FPB’s Campaigns head said that though the percentage of increase seems to be insignificant, it is quiet large when relating to the economic activity. The economic activity driving the requirement of compliance has largely decreased since the earlier survey carried out in the year 2009.
